Paula Bramsen Cullen
Author and Artist
Paula Cullen grew up near Chicago and lives in Princeton. She attended the University of California at Berkeley and, after she married, graduated from Washington University with a degree in English. She is an author of poetry, humor, and fiction and an artist of abstract expressionist needlework.
Her poems and other writings have been published in literary journals and anthologies and in two books. Her art has been featured in a one-woman show, and selected works are included in the second of her books. Her humor articles have been published in newspapers.
The poems in her first book, Journey of Storms, derive from her experiences in therapy for postpartum depression. The poems chronicle the emotional and thoughtprovoking journey through the therapeutic process. The book received excellent comments from Rollo May and Judith Viorst.
Her other poems expand into the myriad life situations we all experience. These poems explore our human reactions and interactions and our deepest feelings of love, fear, loss and realization. She has an unusual aptitude for reaching into people’s lives and drawing out and giving voice to their universal content. She writes with insight, humor, and warmth.
Paula Cullen designs and executes colorful abstract needlepoint canvases. Several of these vibrant canvases are included in her second book, The Sun’s Palette. After developing a design idea, she refines it in a small maquette. She continues the development of the some designs in full-sized tapestries.
