Millstone River Press announces the publication of Journey of Storms by Paula Bramsen Cullen on May 12, 1994, to coincide with Mental Health Month. Ms. Cullen, an accomplished author, captures the feelings and experiences of individuals in psychotherapy in this chronicle of lyrical and accessible poems. Many of these poems have been published singly in literary magazines and magazines devoted to therapy.
Millions of people in the United States begin psychotherapy each year, according to an informal National Institute of Mental Health estimate. This is an anxious time for most people as they try to discover what they will be facing in treatment. Journey of Storms follows the progression and resolution of the therapeutic process in clear understandable poetry. The book provides a useful guide, not only for those beginning therapy, but also for current and former patients and families of patients. It will be useful too for psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, students, and others concerned with the care of patients.
Writers and professionals in the field have high praise for Journey of Storms. Judith Viorst, author of Necessary Losses, said it provided “…a true and eloquent glimpse into the psychoanalytic experience.” Theodore Isaac Rubin, M.D., author of David and Lisa, described it as “…gentle, sensitive, and beautiful.” Rollo May, Ph.D., author of Love and Will, said it offered “…a graphic and insightful picture of what one feels [in psychoanalysis].” Roger Gould, M.D., author of Transformations, said, “I find [this] work extraordinary.”
Journey of Storms is currently available and can be ordered through bookstores or directly from Millstone River Press at P.O. Box 2002, Princeton, NJ 08543-2002. Cloth edition, $16; paper, $12.
